question from a friend...

well i noticed this as well... well my friend jus bought a 1996 4th gen... paid 1500 for it... has 185k... drives nice smooth he bought it from another friend of ours and he hooked it up with a megan exhaust... i drove it today and the tach starts jumping around and slams from one side to the other... common problem... can it be fixed... wat to do...

at steady speed of say 45 mph the tach goes from say 2500rpm to like 4352 2345 2112 0102 the needle bounces everywhere

sounds like a loose wire/ground. i would tell ur firend to just pull his gauge cluster out and check all his wire connections, and make sure there all good and tight

thats one thing im tryin not to do... if its suttin as simple as a loose wire... i woodnt mind fixing... jus figured someone else had this problem as well

Happend to my tach at around 130K....Order a cluster from car-parts.com or ebay.com, pull your cluster out, pull the cover off, there are 4 screws in the rear of the cluster that holds in the tach. Loosen them on both clusters and swap out the tach. Reinstall and youll be fine.
