Motor Mount Help
#42
Just by looking at the FSM, it is not necessary to support the engine while removing the cross member. The LH and RH mounts will support the engine. However, the engine will shift down a bit because of added stress. That is why a jack would be needed to shift up the engine a bit. I'm going to let my friend take care of this at his shop and just pay him with food and beer as that is what we always do.
One question though: when removing the old stock rubber piece out of the mount, does the ring need to come out too? And when putting the new ES poly sleeves in, would the ring need to go into the mount as well thus needing a press? Just wanted to clarify this before I decide to tackle this job.

I watched my mechanic do this on my car. Basically just unbolted the mounts from the engine then dropped the cross member. Put on new mounts and replaced the cross member. When he was putting the cross member back up he did need to use a jack to align everything.

Ya guys i have no problem gettin the front and rear mounts out thats easy (if you read earlier on in the thread you woulda figured that out) my problem is the right motor mount-the one where all bolt ons are(alternator p/s a/c). There is no room to get a ratchet in there let alone a breaker bar, and gettin a box wrench in there is a joke cause its on there so tight i don't get it. Hope sobody can help me out...I'm calling suspension.com right now, they seem like the best price around.

From what I've been hearing from those who have replaced their engine mounts, the LH and RH mounts are not crucial unless they are literally falling apart. The engine torques frontward and backwards as you accelerate therefore the front and rear mounts are the crucial ones needing replacement.
motorheadwannab, is the right motor mount that bad??

So let me ask. Call me stupid, but are the mounts different for a standard and auto. I never got a good look under a 5spd maxima. I know about 5 months ago, ES told me that the motor mounts were only for 5spd. I notice now that the site does not say. If not then does anyone know of motormounts for a auto 1999?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I have a short video describing how I cut my old mounts out and pressed the new ones in. Only problem is it's 40mb.
I can also fill mounts for people. Either I source rebuilt mounts and fill them for u, and charge u core. Or you send me your old ones and just pay for labor (and shipping of course).

I'm pretty sure the engine mounts are the same. However, the transmission mount is different because autos are longer than the 5-speed.

How much would you charge to fill my left and right mounts, i'm getting new front and rears. Max boost, depends on which mounts you are taking off, if its the front and rear place the jack(with some wood inbetween the jack head and car) as close to the center bar as possible and jack it up about quarter inch, if its the tranny or right mount place the jack/wood about 6 inches over from the center bar to get the weight off the mount, you have to work at it a bit to not get it to twist and get the bolt stuck but its not bad, took me about 5 mins to get it in the right place.
I did manage to get the mount off, ha i was tryin to take the wrong bolts off lol! but ya wasn't hard once i figured out which ones to take off, just grabbed a breaker bar and deep socket...and walla! Haha, I am pretty much pro now. j/k
