Air Ride Pros and Cons
Air Ride Pros and Cons
i wanna drop the max. rightnow im thinkin air ride would b the best for my situation. i want it to b slammed at shows and cruise ins, but the roads around northern KY, cinci, and indiana are too ****ty for me to drive with it slammed. so im thinkin i could just raise it a lil when im cruising and slam it at shows etc.. But i also heard its sucks while driving at high speeds. something i enjoy doing. is this a case of give an take or what?

If you really must have a car that goes up and down by itself then put bags in it.
Honetsly, bags are the worst riding and handling set up out there. If thats what your after, then bags aren't for you.

Or any Lexus LS, GX, or LX with adjustable ride height. When they blow, the cars slam to the ground and look ****ty, and cant get back up, and cant get over speed bumps. and it costs a couple grand to fix. Basically better hope you have some pristine roads ahead if anything bad happens...
ive known 3 people with bags all who regret it after 2 years max and go back to coilovers. i myself had hydraulics on my expedition for 2 years and eventually wanted to get rid of it. unless your prepared to deal with leak problems or its not your daily driver i highly advise on not getting them. i times that by 2 if the roads around your way suck.
does air require a lot of custom fab for the max? if something breaks, you could be screwed if you had a shop put 'em in. You'll have to know your system inside and out. If you've had air before and know what your doing, go for it. From talking to my friends with air, (not on the max, on a buick) it can be a VERY expensive undertaking. Good luck.
5sp and bags? wtf
is your car a show car or no? if its a show car then why not, if its a daily driver then your out of your mind, the money can be spent else where on the car.
Get coilovers and call it a day.

Air Ride is mainly for show, so if your objective is to have a showy car then go ahead with air ride. I will admit they look pretty sweet.
On the other hand if you looking to make your car a performance car than air ride is a waste of time. They are not good for handling, I believe they are heavier than other suspension, more chance of problems, expensive to fix, etc.

well rightnow im heading for more show then go. i wanna get some 19's, lip kit, some interior mods. trenz upper and lower valence grills. but i wanna get the basic engine upgrades. ie full exhaust, intake, short shifter. i would b taking it to the track every once in awhile but just to play around.
i jus wanted a 5spd because most of my friends have auto's and i didnt wanna b part of that crowd.
the roads around here arent horribly bad but i like a lower standing car, on the other hand if i were to go with coilovers or lowering springs i would have to make crazy turns just to avoid a bump.
my next question. is air ride on a daily drive askin for trouble? i kno alotta u are biased towards it. so try an give me facts. not opinions. thanks for everything so far.

With coil overs, as someone said above, the day before a show, lower the car. Otherwise, keep the ride height high for daily driving.
A show car on bags and at the track...sounds like an identity crisis.

I've riden in a car on airbags before.....the ride is TERRIBLE! It was the most agonizing drive I have ever had in my life. I don't know how people can put up with this type of ride. It bounces like there's no tomorrow, I felt like I was inside a giant martini shaker. If you like spirited driving at times, the airbags will terribly upset you. Anyhow, you really can't have the best of both worlds. You can't have a show car and at the same time have it as a daily driver. Also, installing airbags involve alot of cutting into the frames. I don't know about you but I would never put my car thru that kind of stuff. You just don't mess with a vehicle chasis that way. Believe me, cars with airbags are so impractical for daily use. What is the use of having a car when all you could do is park it??? Build yourself a show Maxima, chop it up anyway you want to, slam it all the way down until the body touches the ground. But leave your daily driver alone. BTW, you sound like you don't know what you want to do with your car. On one post, you said you want to hit the track and then another post says you are going for more show than go! Make up your mind and do it!
My buddy used to have air ride on his 99, you can see it here: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/306422. The ride was pretty nice so long as it was not all the way up or all the way down. Handling wasn't bad, but certainly wasn't great. He always had issues with the fittings losing air and it made quite a bit more noise than a standard coilover would.
i was unaware that u had to cut into the frame.
i kno what i want to do to my car. im just unsure about the bags and i never stated that i wouldnt take my car to the track. i will take my car to the track whether its show or not, every once in awhile to go **** around with friends. nothing serious, and not often
obviously some ppl on here have had bad expirences and some really good. im assuming it just comes down to how much money u have ta blow and how the quality of the work is.

No matter how much money you dump on bags, it will never ride as smooth as coilovers. I compare riding on bags like riding on a car with heated or cut springs, multiply that by 3.
You should find a place around your area that does this kind of work and ask to ride in a car around the block and even on the freeway. Then you can expect your car to ride the same way if you were to go with bags.

I like it not really had any problems with it. few leaks but fixed them. The ride depends on what height you ride at. all the way up or all the way down is bouncy but in the middle rides very good. never have to worry about scraping. Have had it on my car for about 3 years, I like them, both my car and truck have airbags. Its just a matter of opinion. Hope this helps.
