Very simple, take it out and go to Autzone or someting and get it tested. That is what I did.

Agree with taking it to AutoZone for testing...I just recently changed mine. 145 from AutoZone...30 min to change.

guys i was told that the smoke coming from the starter was caused by the constant working of the starter while i was trying to get it started, they told me that the spark plugs are firing up but the engine just wont start, prolly not getting fuel, well its getting a lil dark right now so they gonna have to check on it tomorow,
mann this thing has me so frustrated

and what is this about the factory alarm and keeping the car from starting that people keep on telling me about? they keep on saying that because i changed the engine replacedthe alarm is keeping it from starting. tell me a lil more about that.

My opinion is it's best just to bend over and get the new starter than try and re-grease it. Sure compared to other cars the starters in Max's are easy to get to but re-greasing it is not going last as long as a new starter. I just replaced mine on my 98 and it was leaking oil from the bottom so re-greasing was not an option for me but I had made up my mind to replace it anyway. Cross my fingers but it should be the last starter I put in my car as opposed to re-greasing and then later on having to go back and replace it.
