Hid's or Fogs???

Im stuck...i can get a set of fogs, new, for $130 or spend the 200+ to get some hid's....in your opinion, from those of you who have stock headlights and fogs vs those of you with hid's and fogs, which do you think i should go with first?

at the same time, anyone with 12k or 14k hid's ( i believe one of the 2 are green ) see good with them?

prepare to get flamed. people will disagree with using HID's without a retrofit. also, with the bulb temp that you are looking at getting. I would go with the fogs if you aren't going to go about doing HID's correctly, let alone legally.

Personally i don't the glare is insane. Aim a little lower then what you have them now. Maybe come up with a custom shield.

But HID vs. Stock fogs. I dont have stock fogs. But i hear that its mainly for show. It looks like it kinda helps but HID kit would be brighter reguardless. If you would want try to get something in the 5k area. Overall its more light and close to white

if you have stock headlights, i sould say go with hid's. I have $150 foglights, they are the catz, sp projector, doesn't really light up the raod like i do with the hids. I had these installed on my previous car n only helped a lil, not much. I can't install these because the foglight is sooo big it won't fit into my i30 bumper, i still have yet figure out a way to mount these things. i aim them a lil higher than normal, some people flash me, some people don't, my headlights look purple so they know that its not stock. But i would get hid's, oh i have the cefiro's with hid, not the stock headlights with hid. but the stock is like useless IMO

If you want more light, a 9007 conversion would cost next to nothing.

Driving around with HIDs in stock reflectors is ridiculously annoying to other people. HIDs with projectors are already bright as hell, imagine if they're being reflected directly into someone's eyes. If you're going to go HID reflector route, at least make some shields or something, read up about it. I wouldn't get anything over 6K in terms of temperature, as they don't put out nearly as much light, and scream "pull me over", but it's obviously your decision.

Unfortunately, fogs are more for show than for light. Mine help, but all they do is light up a wider area close to you. If you just want more light then I definitely suggest a 9007 conversion with xtravisions--I just did it and it helps immensely, although it's still well short of HIDs.

12-14k is WAY too high for anyone considering HIDs. Light output is surprisingly optimum at lower temps. You'll actually see better with a lower temp light. Some BMW's seem to have almost purple/blue HID's because of their projectors. The actual temp of a stock BMW HID system is around 4300-4500K, the only reason they come out blue/purple is the design of the projector - the prism effect specifically.

If you get HID's, please do everyone else a favor & get a proper projector.

i have fogs, they're mainly for show (rewire...driving around in the daytime..)
But your best bet for sheer light output would be to retrofit projectors into your headlights.
