My car has almost 80k on it and I'm sure the paint is pretty well seasoned. I'm afraid if I take the emblem off it's going to be hard to hide the marks.

Need some advice, thanks.

but it might still have the "shadow" where the un weathered paint is still new condidioned. I removed it after 24,000 and the maxima part looks fine but the nissan one you can barely see it if you really look

What color is your car?

For some reason I think it will show more on a dark colored car (???)

But when u take it off, there will be some residue left over most likely, there are different cleaners sold to rub the gunk off.. what you might want to do then is polish it, keep doing it periodically and it will probably fade in...
I took off my pin stripes and didn't use any heat guns or hair dryers, paint was a different color and u can see the lines but I cleaned it, waxed it, polished it, after a few times it faded....

Neptune Blue

That's what I'm afraid of. What can I use on the gunk/paint. Goof off? Or is that too strong? I have some Meguires cleaner wax that is fantastic so I need someone to tell me to go for it!!

Ground Effects?

Do you have a ground effects kit and the car lowered. I wouldn't shave the emblems unless I had all that done.

I did it the hairdryer way and then replaced the original gold package(don't ask) with the chrome emblems. However I did wash the car and cleaned it, you could not tell where the MAXIMA was.

By the way, my car is a 95 SE-Super Black with 110k when I did the swap.

Good luck and be careful.
Best regards,
Jason

Go for it. You've got a base coat/clear coat paint job. The only thing that gets weathered is the clear.

i did it to my 97 with 60k. you can't tell it was ever there, actually i only took off the nissan emblem and kept MAXIMA. i think that looks best. but anyway, to answer your question goo gone takes the extra stuff off in 60 seconds, and use a wax to blend it in.

I would shave the symbol and leave the lettering until you can afford to also shave the key hole. The key hole off to the side, drives me crazy. Shaving the key hole and painting will cost $250 or less. Just a thought.

Thats what I was thinking about doing. I think the burger clutters up the back too much. Just the MAXIMA is calmly refreshing. Anyone else just do this?
