18 X 7.5 rims whats the widest tire i can put on there

right now i have a set of 18 inch by 7.5 inch wide rims and im running 225/40/18 tires. I need 2 new tires for the front and the rear tire are still brand new. I was thinking about putting the rear tires on the front and buying tires for the rear. I was wondering what is the widest tire i can put on my rims. also i want to stay with the 40 series tires. I was thinking 275/40/18 but im not sure

235's were slipping on my 7.5's already, what do you think 275's will do? and how the hell do you go from 225 to 275?

215 or 225 is good for that size. Cuz if you convert 225 to inches, it's 8.85", so i don't think it's good to have a tire that's too much wider than a rim.

you'll waste your money... the tire will just come off your rim while driving...

what do you mean slipping ? .. correct me if im wrong but when you put the tire on the wheel it seals ... please explain

this is a good question ... ive got a 17x7.5 and im pretty much set on the idea of a 235/45 for the rim ...

For a 225/40 R18, the Tire & Rim Association mninimum recommended width is 7.5 inches. For a 235/40 R18, it is 8. With a higher profile tire (234/45 R18) it drops back to 7.5. Assuming they factor in a safety margin, I would not go above 235. I think the concern is unseating of the tire from the rim in cornering.
