hesitation/slipping? 5sp, clutch?

just noticed this the other day. if i get on it in any gear, the tach goes up to about 4k rpm then down to about 2k and rises from there. kind of feels like something is slipping, maybe the clutch?

does this sound familiar?

do you feel the RPMS rise up to 4k and then drop too? i.e. do you notice a change in engine speed that matches the behavior of the needle?

If yes, then it sounds like a slipping clutch. If you don't step on it, I assume you don't have this problem, right?

You're describing all the symptoms of a burnt up clutch.

that's exactly what's happening. the engine speed goes up with the tach.
i'm looking for the best affordablility and dependablility, not really performance. so, 5th gen setup?

if this happens only in one gear, could it be the tranny? i'm not sure if it was in all gears now.
