Power Steering

Wil a bad power steering pump throw a CEL?

When I lock my wheel left or right I hear a really bad whirring noise coming from the front end now as the car is in motion.

Car has 160,000 +

No the power steering pump will not throw a CEL.

Some whining at the turning lock points is not abnormal - it could just be a slipping belt. If the pump whines all the time, then it's likely bad.

Ok, I just got all the belts replaced so I hope thats not it.

I'll go to autozone and get them to run the code; thanks for confirming that it doesn't throw a code.

Did the problem start after changing the belt? if yes, perhaps it's a little loose.

It's been over a month and a half since I got all of the belts changed. It doesn't make the noise with the car not moving, would that still be the belt?

The belts tend to stretch a little right after installation - so it's not uncommon for them to start squealing after breaking-in.

whining noise is a symptom of a wheel bearing also, watch for same noise when driving straight.
