now driving 5 speed

now driving 5 speed

last saturday BlackBirdVQ converted my max to 5 spd.
sweet. love that ride. huge differance between driving auto and manual.
only one problem is lunch fast without burning tires.

Hey - how did it go - any hurdles... how long did it take... did you update your local forums thread with this info already?

it went smooth. we starded on friday and worked on my car about 3 hours.
than on saturday we started around 10 am and my car was ready to go at 2 pm.

Just read it - sucks about the tranny problem... you gotta get it fixed?

That was pretty quick... (much quicker than THTs conversion).

yes that was very fast swap. we saved a lot of time because i installed clutch pedal like 3 months ago. so there was no f.....ing around

not really. input shaft bearing in tranny is bad, and it makes a lot of noise

Oh how I love the feel of a manual gearbox for such a smooth & refined V6, love the growls at peak torque... :-D

Nice work.. Want to do the same thing to mine but after I get some money and time for it. How much did it cost you total? Did you take out the TCU? (transmission control unit)

total cost was like 1500$.
for just bolts and nuts from a dealer i paid 200$

TCU is still sitting in my car. i have O/D flashing after engine start but i dont care about it. maybe one day i will pull bulb out

Wow where did you get your trans from? That is not that much for the swap.. I was more thinking about 2000+ range. Where does the TCU sit and how hard is it to remove it? Also will the CEL come on if you take out the TCU?

i havent tested it too hard, because of tranny problem.
i know one!!!! if you press full gas, there is no traction on 1st and 2nd gear

the tcu isn't really that hard to unplug and pull out. it'll prolly be easier than removing your gauge cluster to pull the bulb.
