Well no matter what setup you go with it gonna be harsher then your stock ride but coilovers are a good investment for a couple hundred over a strut/spring combo which will provide better handling and less body roll due to the fact they are sitffer then any spring combo you can get.

But for a med drop(1.0-1.5) and a soft ride almost like stock I would say go with H&R springs(1.4 F & 1.3 R) combined with Tokico Illuminas

K sport or Tein basics if you want to go pretty low, if you don't want to go that low then Tein S tech, eibach, etc.

I'm considering coilovers and the consensus seems to be whatever aftermarket suspension setup you go with, its gonna be a harsher ride. My max has 130k on it and, altho i bought it used so i cant compare to now, the ride is pretty harsh (and by that i mean i can feel every bump in the road) as it is. I'm assuming the stock suspension degrades over time and i dont hate the way it drives now, but i dont think i'd be up for a bumpier ride if i go aftermarket.
So i guess what i'm asking is: if you lower it is the ride gonna be harsher/stiffer/bumpier/whatever than stock suspension after 130k miles.

Any aftermarket suspension gonna ride harsher and stiffer because you dropped it. Which are why the springs are stiffer to compensate for the new lower suspension travel. You wouldnt want your springs soft when you drop your car 2 inches because the slightest bump you hit gonna bottom you out which can cause loss of handling. And it will be bumpier because you are riding on a stiffer spring which doesnt allow as much travel due to the lower height so that why the springs are stiffer.

And a lower drop gonna give you better handling anytime over stock and less body roll so you can take those turns faster

My friend has Megan Racing springs on his max, and it rides almost exactly like it did with his stock SE springs. Its slighly harder ride, but not really that noticeble.

I have Eibach Pro-Kit springs with Tokico Illuminas now. About $700. The drop is beautiful and the handling is much better than stock. Definitely recommended if you like performance with a compromise towards comfort. My girlfriend rides in my car all the time, and she doesn't even notice much of a difference over the stockers. Just got a new set of K-Sport coilovers though (about $850) for even better handling and so I can go a little higher so my Stillen front lip doesn't scrape on steep stuff as much.

How bout a price breakdown. Jeremy you said about $700 is that what you ended up paying in the end or is that just for the springs? I'm not too worried about the ride, I can live with just about anything, I want a nice drop tho and well not too expensive of course...student budget lol

If you're looking for a mild drop and a "not as rough" ride, then H&R or Tien H-Techs are for you.

H&R and Illuminas give the best performance/comfort setup, and it's adjustable.

I second the HR/illumina setup. I have it and I am very happy with it. Some people say that it is an uneven drop. Its really not. it just looks that way due to the way our cars are made. The lip of the wheel well is lower in the rear as opposed to the front., but the car does sit level, even with a 50lb sub in the trunk. Maybe somebody has a pic of the setup to show you the HR drop
