Hi, for this summer I'll plan to drop my max.
I want your advices for good shocks , springs OR coilovers??? I dont want rattel after 2 weeks.
I heard about a lot of suspension kit but I want to know what you have on your car.
ps:The streets are full of holes in spring...
Thanks

Well no matter what setup you go with it gonna be harsher then your stock ride but coilovers are a good investment for a couple hundred over a strut/spring combo which will provide better handling and less body roll due to the fact they are sitffer then any spring combo you can get.
But for a med drop(1.0-1.5) and a soft ride almost like stock I would say go with H&R springs(1.4 F & 1.3 R) combined with Tokico Illuminas

I'm considering coilovers and the consensus seems to be whatever aftermarket suspension setup you go with, its gonna be a harsher ride. My max has 130k on it and, altho i bought it used so i cant compare to now, the ride is pretty harsh (and by that i mean i can feel every bump in the road) as it is. I'm assuming the stock suspension degrades over time and i dont hate the way it drives now, but i dont think i'd be up for a bumpier ride if i go aftermarket.
So i guess what i'm asking is: if you lower it is the ride gonna be harsher/stiffer/bumpier/whatever than stock suspension after 130k miles.

And a lower drop gonna give you better handling anytime over stock and less body roll so you can take those turns faster
well u looking for subtle drop with comfy ride.....dramatic slam dont car abnout ride...u going to auto-x or roadcourse race......H&R springs are soft lil hsarsher than stock.....progress springs are litte harder than H&R......Eibachs are stiff good for motorsports.....GC sleeve coilovers are real harsh good for motorsports...of cousre ur absoleute best cmbos will be true coilovers but theose are $$$ Tein S-tech springs are not stiff enough for the drop they give but if u dont care they look good....i can go on forever so think about whAT u really want and ill responde more
I have Eibach Pro-Kit springs with Tokico Illuminas now. About $700. The drop is beautiful and the handling is much better than stock. Definitely recommended if you like performance with a compromise towards comfort. My girlfriend rides in my car all the time, and she doesn't even notice much of a difference over the stockers. Just got a new set of K-Sport coilovers though (about $850) for even better handling and so I can go a little higher so my Stillen front lip doesn't scrape on steep stuff as much.
How bout a price breakdown. Jeremy you said about $700 is that what you ended up paying in the end or is that just for the springs? I'm not too worried about the ride, I can live with just about anything, I want a nice drop tho and well not too expensive of course...student budget lol

I second the HR/illumina setup. I have it and I am very happy with it. Some people say that it is an uneven drop. Its really not. it just looks that way due to the way our cars are made. The lip of the wheel well is lower in the rear as opposed to the front., but the car does sit level, even with a 50lb sub in the trunk. Maybe somebody has a pic of the setup to show you the HR drop
