5th Gen clutch conversion?
i know this has been talked about alot, but i am talking to someone about buying a clutch setup from a 5th gen (2000). Included in this setup is the clutch plate, PP plate, and TO bearing. Are there any other 5th gen parts i will need to make the conversion? are there alteration (ie. cutting or Grinding) needed? lastly will the flywheel from a 2000 bolt up to my 98?

i don't think i've heard of anyone using the 5th gen flywheel, and unless it's lighter than the 4th gen it doesn't really make much sense buying one. just get the one you have resurfaced (if that's possible, i can't remember now). also, i hate to say this again, but something really similar to this was also posted really recently and could be found on the first page of this forum at the time of my posting this message. Check it out for more info.

Thats what i thought about the clutch setup, but what about the flywheel. I want to buy a used 5th gen (2000) flywheel, get it resurfaced and lighted. i don't like what i am hearing about alot of the aftermarket flywheels, and plus i don't want to much weight removed from it. only about 6 or 7 pounds worth. so can some one let me know if a 5th gen flywheel will bolt up to my 98?

i just saw that thread, it was not on this page when i started mine, and my main question is about the flywheel. And i hate to be the guy that jacks someone else thread for myown questions

well from the title and your first post it's kinda hard to tell that the flywheel is your main question, so i apologize. in the stickies it says that the 4th gen isn't lightenable and that no one with a 4th or 5th gen. in memory has had this done.(nothing to remove). but, i'm not sure, it might've happened since the sticky was made.

costs about the same as the OEM 4th gen clutch but with better clamping force. enough to make a difference, but still not harsh like an aftermarket one. it's a solid choice if you don't plan on adding too much power.

the main reason i am asking about the the 5th gen flywheel is that i have a line one a cheep one and i was going to try to take it to my local machine shop and have them lighten and resurface it. i have not asked yet if it is posable to lighten the flywheel, but i would expect them to be able to remove some of the extra weight then rebalance it. this way when i have the car apart for the clutch i can just slap in the new flywheel with having to get the existing one worked on. so does anyone know for a fact if it bolts up?

i know you didn't ask, but the last confirmed generation to have the capacity to be lightened is the 3rd gen. It's in the stickies posted by someone who wanted to have their flywheel lightened and i was just passing that info along. anyway, i have no idea if it bolts up, sorry i can't help with that.

Well i guess the first thing i should do, would be call my machine shop and see what they tell me, but i can't imagine that you could not machine some weight of a solid steal flywheel.

4th and 5th gen flywheels are the same.
