Spark Plugs

Ok well since I cannot do a search on these forums still, no access, uughh
I will just have to post this, and I'm sure its been posted before.
Anyway, I just got not too long ago, a 1995 Maxima GXE fully loaded, with 20,000 miles on it.
I want to change the wires and plugs, air filter... a nice tune up.
so anyways, what do you more experienced Maxima guys use or recommand ?
Thanks,

-john

20,000 or 200,000?

Read the stickies, read the car manual or spend 20 bucks and get a Haynes or donate. Your questions have been covered here many times.

You can also use the poor-man's search... see the feed-back forum/general maxima discussion for links to that search.

We dont have spark plug wires.....also you need to donate to use the maxima.org search. A alternative to searching would be to use google and "blah blah site:forums.maxima.org"

You don't know how many of these I've seen in the past weeks.
You can also search by reading page after page on this forum, it takes time but it's better than getting flamed.

What is the true mileage on the vehicle? If in fact there is only 20,000 miles on the clock, you have the lowest mileage 4th Generation Maxima in the world!

Hey thanks for the replies so far and I guess that would explain why I wasn't able to search, And for the record, I would be more than happy to donate.
Just tell me how. I have read the stickies in the past and there is some awesome stuff on here. so yeah I have no problem donating to this site.

yeah it only had 20,000 miles when my dad bought it, now it has close to 24,000 mile in 2 months... My dad bought it from an old lady he knew and she lived in the city.... so she only really used it for going to the supermarket....etc. Now she bought a new one. Only bad thing is the car has alot of door dings and the rear bumper is horrible. Needs to be replaced completly, the cover that is.

And hey, not to say anything negative, but I tried searching, couldnt' do so... I looked about a page down for a spark plug thread and wasn't able to find one. I also looked in other threads and groups and really didnt see anything, so since this is a message forum I figured I would post my question.
Don't see why I would get flamed for it, I think responding to someone and saying that is just a waste of time, the time you spend 'flaming' someone you could have made useful and just answering his question..... especially a newbie who is very wiling to donate money to support this forum.
Flaming someone is definitly not going to get money from a newbie... just my 2 cents.....

And thanks for giving me all the useful info so far regarding my questions..
And to get back to the 20,000 mile thing, yeah its true, 24K now on it.
I inherited the car from my dad unfort. He was hit by a drunk driver this past memorial day weekend and was killed... so this car has alot more value to me and I really want to take care of it, so I think this forum will be very helpful.

Thanks guys/gals.

Oh man sorry to hear but I will try to help you out im assuming most of this stuff is original parts. But for the plugs nissan recommends NGK platinum plugs but you can also run NGK copper plugs as an alternative suppose to provide a better spark but only last 30K compared to the platinum at 60K. Laser platinum are the best but they cost about 70 bucks for all 6. Here part number for laser platinum PFR5G-11

As for the filter any brand will work but if you want a long lasting filter go with the K&N filter since they are reusable

Thanks Brad, I appreciate the help, I am probably going to go and pick them up now at either pep boys or autozone. I kind of hate pepboys, there staff knows NOTHING about cars, some do.... but I'm sure anyone who has dealt with them know exactly what I mean.

I figure I will baby the car today since it's actually like 50 degrees today. Kinda sweet I just read the service manual I bought.... I just 'assumed' the car had wires, pretty interesting to have no wires.... I guess I'm just used to american cars .... yeah ok dont flame me for saying that,

What makes you think you need new spark plugs? You will still have the OEM NGK platinum plugs and they should be good to go.

I still have the original plugs in my 95SE and at 62,500 mostly highway miles, the vehicle runs like the day I bought it and my fuel economy is as good as its ever been.

If you aren't particularly mechanically inclined and want the plugs to last longer, go with the NGK platinum plugs, not the coppers. DO NOT use anything but NGK plugs.

You should check the condition of all the fluids while you are at it: transmission, radiator, power steering, brakes etc. and likely replace them all.

Actually I didnt know they came with NGK Platinum, I just went out today and bought the new NGK Irdiums, and K&N Air filter, Mobile 1 Oil Filter (110).
hmmmmm, I just figured I would change them since its been in there for 10 years.... I was out there attempting to change them (first time ever working in a foreign car).

Take the Iridiums back and buy the Platinums. The Iridiums are better for boosted applications.

I bought a set of Denso Iridiums 3 years ago. 46,000 miles later I pulled them today and they still look like damn brand new. Only a little carbon on the bottom but the electrodes are like new. Still shiny.

Gap was dead on too. Best long term investment in my car to date.

20,000 miles, not always a good thing, car obviously sat for very long periods. Only 2K a year, wonder if the oil got changed every 3 months. If it sat unstored, problems could arise, sludge in tank, seals dried out, rubber parts crack. I would still go over the entire car as if it had 100K because there are alot of things to change just because of the time. A 10 year old car with 20K is not as good condition as a newer car with 20K, don't let the mileage fool you. Good luck hope it goes good

Regarding the search feature for only selected members... (if any of the decision making eyes fall on this)

If everyone could search the forum, fewer new (duplicate) topics would be posted, thus saving bandwith and saving money.

Statements like "Read the stickies, read the car manual or spend 20 bucks and get a Haynes or donate. Your questions have been covered here many times." (which help no one) would also decrease, raising the morale of the website, and again, reduce bandwith. The original poster knew these questions have been covered here many times, but was unable to access those answers, due to a lack of search ability.

Yeah I agree with you, I will go over it once the weather gets better.
I attempted a few things today and was a little like WTF, foreign cars are a little different, but same crap. I just need to read the manual for this car. I am hoping the weather tmrw is good again here in NY so I can continue working.
