Wiper Arm Linkage Installation

Wiper Arm Linkage Installation
I need to replace the first link (from motor to middle pivot)
and I'm going no where in this friggin damp cold weather.
I poped the rubber/plastic cover off and all I see is a smallish access hole
that let's me grasp the first linkage and that's about it.
Are you supposed to remove the wiper motor and/or something else
to have clear access for replacement?

Holy lord, what a bad design.
Surprised the linkage on my car survived this long.
Plastic pivots at two different angles with a bit of grease.
Now I'm wondering if I have to seat the pivot on the
wiper motor first and try to feed the linkage in or install
the linkage to the middle pivot first and somehow try to press the pivot
on the motor after.. Any ideas?
