Dome Lights Stay On

I would like to know if anyone has had the problem with the dome light staying on after you turn off your car and lock the doors? I have tried everything I know, but it doesn't work. So I had to remove the fuse to make sure that it didn't kill my battery. My car is a 1995 Maxima with 140k miles and it just started doing this about 1 week ago.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think my 96 GXE has light problems but I observed the dome light works this way:
1. when I pull the key out of the ignition, the dome light turns on even with all doors still closed; after about 20 seconds it turns off;
2. as long as the key is NOT in the ignition slot, whenever the driver's front door is opened and then closed, the dome light will turn and stay on for about 20 second, then off; the other three doors don't have this 20 second delay;
3. during those 20 second "ON" time, if I remotely lock the door (meanwhile arm the alarm system), the dome light will turn off immediately;
4. A few times I switched the dome light to a permanent ON position, and left the door open. After maybe 30 minutes the dome light plus the lights on the front door (step light if you will) turned off automatically, kind of battery saving feature. However the 1996 owners manual doesn't say so. I didn't try the headlights, as I didn't want to waste my battery.

dome lights are funny..
the dome light wont' go out untill you lock all the doors with the key.. ensure that the switch is in the middle setting or door setting.
or
the dome light if you get in the car .. will not go out until you start the car..

Are you saying that the "door" function of the dome light isn't working, or does the dome light not shut off even when the switch is on "off"? If it just won't shut off, just take out the bulb. You will always have those two map lights to use if you really need a light.
