Burning oil?! Attention Daniel B.
95SE with 68k. Change the oil with Pennzoil from day 1 every 3k. Today...after the car sat for three days I started it and it puffed a medium size cloud of blue smoke! That makes me want to puke. I know it sat for three days and it could have leaked by the rings a bit. I got to work and came in. Three hours later I went out and started it and it was fine.
I am ****, I mean **** about the car, so I am probably overreacting. It runs great, starts great and has TONS of power. I am curious what I can do outside of the obvious compression test. Should I just leave it alone?
A car buring oil is classified as a junker to me!
I checked and I am about 500miles from a oil change and the crankcase is full.....
ideas?

Sounds like leaky valve guide seals to me. Not a DIY job for you. Requires taking the heads off or some using compressed air to keep the valve up. If you not using 10w-30 weight, try it on your next oil change. BTW 3000 miles is much too early!

I am not even going there with you on the flame war
I changed my oil the last time at 2k.....ha.
Here ends the <sarcasm/>
Anyway, Jeff with all do respect I hope you are wrong. That is an expensive ordeal that I don't even want to think about getting involved with. My sisters old 90 Camry with 120k on the V6 had that done to the tune of $1000. Come to think of it; my moms 00'GS400 has done that before too. Her's will sit for 2 weeks at a time. When she starts it up it will puff a SMALL amount. Mine wasn't that big...I guess I was pushing it a bit because any smoke ****es me off
I am running 10w30 now, so I am not sure what else to try. I feel that if after 3k it hasn't used any oil, then its probably just fine---just annoying more than anything.
I was hoping someone would be able to tell me there was some snake oil I could throw in there

Please continue to drive and maintain the car normally. Keep careful track of engine oil consumption. I think you will discover your Max is using almost none.
The industry standard for "acceptable oil consumption" is one quart per thousand miles. Many of us Maxima owners are accustomed to seeing our VQ30DE go from one oil change to the next without needing replenishment.

Too frequent oil changes = medium cloud of blue smoke after sitting for extended period of time?
