Power steering belt without a lift...???

I've change belts on couple of maximas before with only a floorjack but i gotta say i'm having a hard time reaching the first big bolt behind the steering pump of this 95 max. I've tried every wratchet/key, nothing can squeeze in there. Is it actually possible to loosen that damn belt without removing any parts?

Yes, it is possible. No, it is not easy. I hated having to replace and adjust mine. I don't remember what size it is off the top of my head, but for some reason I want to say that the bolt is reverse-threaded, so you have to turn it the opposite way (I might be wrong though, my memory is kinda foggy.) Good luck.

You could just cut the old belt off, and put the new one on the power steering side first, then put the belt 1/4 of the way on the crank side, then turn the crank and slip the belt on the rest of the way.

There are 2 parts to loosen for the p/s belt. One is the locking nut (or its a bolt) 12mm I believe. Then there is the reverse threaded bolt (tensioner). I think that one is a 10mm.

Actually 3 parts - the two you mention, plus the power steering pump pivot bolt - which is what the OP is referring to.

A combination wrench fits up there, but its a very tight fit.

I just made this replacement yesterday

You need a socket wrench about 24"s of extensions a Universal Joint and the 14mm socket to knock out the back bolt.

From underneath on the driver side, go over the y- pipe and mid engine support beam and you'll have no problems loosening the bolt.

The others are very simple as well, 1-12mm wrench and a 12mm socket will knock them out too. You'll be done in 30min, at least I was, once I figured out how to attack the back bolt.
