Front end weight without engine

If you were to remove the engine by dropping it down, just lifting the front end of the car up and sliding the engine and tranny out. What would be the weight of the front end without the engine and tranny? What hoist capacity would you need?

thx for any input

IIRC: Weight of the engine ~750lbs
Tranny weight w/o fluids: ~90lbs
Weight of SE: ~3K-lbs

Weight of car without engine and tranny: ~2160lbs

Get an 1 ton engine hoist and you'll be fine.

a hoist. Thats pretty much the only way you can get it from the top.

that is the dumbest way to remove it. if you remove it from the top, you have to unbolt the tranny from the engine. drop the engine down and raise the car and roll the engine out with the tranny still bolted on.

do you have to remove the hood, or at least the hood struts?

hood struts atleast, but you risk cracking you windscreen if you push it back too far (I know from experience )

I agree with vsamoylov, get a good jack and jack the car up super high and roll the engine and tranny out and unbolt them after.
