If you want the transmission to shift quicker and firmer in between shifts, you need to have the valve bodies modified to increase solenoid pressures. Level 10 can do this modification, as can Don in Texas.

Go to Ben Garner's page http://bgarner.tripod.com/1995nissanmaxima/id3.html
Read his instructions "How To Make A Shift Control for Your Auto Transmission." Ben's idea is not equal to a VB mod but it is easy and inexpensive.

Is that method safe for the auto tranny? I'm guessing it could damage the torque converter?

I won't speak for Ben Garner. I can't try his mod because Plain Jane (my '99 GXE) is a 5-speed.

IMHO Ben's mod won't hurt the torque converter but frequent use will shorten the life of the clutches inside the tranny.

Does anyone

make stall converters for the Maximas? I am thinking of trading my 98 GXE Auto in for a 97-99 SE 5Speed if I can find one.
