nissan dealers can do it, or you can try calling a local place and see if they offer the service. its usually 75 bucks plus.

when you put the key in your ignition, your ignition activates a transponder in your key which omits a frequency that is recognized by your ignition. sometimes the key looses its prorgram, and the ignition will not recognize the key. some people never have trouble, some people do, its really a freak thing when it stops working.

your fuel pump wont work when your ignition doesnt recognize the key. yoru car will turn over but not fire up. many times, the first time you try to crank the car after the key deprograms, the car may start for a second, maybe less... depending on how much fuel was left in the fuel line.

The only way to have it reprogrammed it so have someone do it. the computer to do this project costs in excess of 15,000 dollars and can only be bought by a licensed tech.

Hate to ask the obvious, but have you tried giving it gas while turning the key. A couple weeks ago, my car started up, and died instantly. After that, it refused to start. I gave it some gas while cranking, and it started up, hasn't done it since then... When this happened to me, i also had about 1/4 tank of gas, and the weather was very cold. I've been keeping it above 1/2 tank ever since then. I thought my Engine Coolant Temp sensor was going bad, but I didn't get that code when I checked my ECU. Do you have any codes? Usually that's the best place to begin. Cleaning the Throttle Body also might not be a bad idea. Additionally, you can give the starter a whack and see if you have any luck.

Also, it couldn't hurt to try jumpstarting the car. I see that you replaced the battery in august, but still, with the cold weather we've been having, it's worth a shot.

I completely agree with the earlier post re: battery. My gf owns a Volvo S-80 (don't even start) which has been doing the exact...same...thing. We replaced the fuel pump, yet the problem persisted. She eventually brought it to the stealership. The problem??? 29 (yes...29) stored codes and a battery at 15% charge. They cleared the codes and fully charged the battery. Problem gone bye-bye...just my 2.3 cents.

The abscence of a CEL doesn't necessarily mean you don't have any stored codes. For example, last week, I checked my ECU out of curiosity ( no CEL ) and lo & behold, I need a new knock sensor. I think the best thing to do would be to manually check.

ive never heard of this battery issue. if you want to clear your codes, just unplug your negative battery cable for an hour or two

Very rarely, lately, my 95 SE with 155k will not want to start. The starter cranks away (only 6 mo old)...

sounds like your starter and battery are solid...

What i do is run the starter for about 30 seconds, let it sit for about 2 minutes and do it again, and repeat. After about the 2 or 3rd time it will fire up and run no problem. dont give it any gas...let the ECU do it's job.

when this happens i typically have a pretty pungent exhaust (from my car, not me) which makes me think that the car was originally flooded and just had to "waste" the excess fuel out the back before the right A/F mix was obtained.

crank pos sensor will throw a code if it fouls.
