Loosen the four bolts that are connecting the MAF sensor to the airbox, then loosen the clamp that holds the MAF sensor to the resonator. You're done!

how does one know when a MAF is going out, or not performing at its fullest?

it can. On my last MAF I was having this problem where when ever I stoped at a stop sign or stop light my car would die out unless I kept giving it gas. I replaced the MAF and the problem was fixed.

I would try cleaning it first before changing it out. Pep Boys now carries CRC brand MAF cleaner. It's worth a try.

You can find a MAF sensor in the 4th Gen Classifieds, I don't think Autozone has them.

Mine played me for 2 weeks with no CEL, but the symtoms were there. So yes eventually it will pop a CEL, but not initally... for as many as 400 miles.

Try www.car-part.com for cheap MAF's. ...

DAMN! i wish it was a MAF code i pulled from my car ...i figured it wasnt the MAF when i pulled it off to clean it and it was already clean. instead i got "random/multiple cylinder misfires detected". not cool man. i tested the coils too and when unplugged, each one seemed to drop RPMs so i dont know what it is
