...cops suck

Ok so heres my story. I was pulling out of my gf's driveway, goin about 30 mph on the road, and this cop comes flying over the hill and nails me with his radar. my detector goes off and i obviosly realize its a cop but i just think to myself...well im ok cause i was going under the speed limit. The next thing i see is his brake lights and hes on my *** about a minute later. After awhile he decides to turn the blues on so i pull over. I was just thinking wtf, i havent done s*** wrong. So he walks up and asks me about some mysterious beeping tone comming from my car, which confused me as i thought he was somehow talking about my detector. He pointed to my hood, the orgin of the noise and i was like ohhh, thats my blow off valve. So he walks back over and asks for the usuall stuff and starts reprimanding me about how low my car is (ive lowered it since my sig pic), that its illegal in about 20 diff ways, the exhaust is to loud and i had no front plate. he took forever with my info and i thought so as he** i would end up getting a ticket. fortunately he let me off, and told me to change the exhaust and put the font plate on. I ended up checking over all the maine laws and my car breaks none of them, but he wrote the stuff on my registration in pen so ive gotta fix it or risk getting ticketed. I can deal with chaning the exhaust cause it is pretty loud but my problem is, i really dont want to blemish my car with an ugly a** license plate. So thats my long story...im just pissed about the license plate.

If your car is not breaking any rules I wouldn't change anything. You can also see if the state will allow you to have the plate on the dash so that it is visible from outside.

sad... most cops are pretty decent people... but some are total ****s...
I once got pulled over by a cop who said i had my music too loud... but really my music wasn't loud, someone else had a sub and he just saw me with my window down so he pulled me over. He threatened to fine me $350 and I just about told him to **** off but he said he would give me a warning so i just kept my mouth shut...

I'm from Maine too man!!! I hate the front plate law! I've gotten away with it so far, but it's only a matter of time before some cop notices.

Your car, along with many of us modded maxes, are cop magnets.

usually most cops dont even notice my car. it was however 1 in the morning and i think he was bored. this cop did suck, cause he was an idiot, didnt know sh** about my car and just decided to make up a bunch of laws on the spot to throw at me to try and intimidate me. therefore i just acted dumb and got off with a warning. my brothers car on the other hand, is a cop magnet...but i suppose thats what happens when you ride around in a modded VR4 up here...

Cops don't suck, your loud exhaust is what got you in trouble.
Perhaps this thread should be retitled to say "Loud exhaust systems suck".

It's amazing how some guys set their cars up as rolling attention seekers and then blame the cops after they get the attention.

It's not our cars. It's the mods that are done to them. I have a loud a$$ OBX exhaust, and before I put the silencer in it was unbearably loud, but I never got pulled over for it or a ticket. So part of it is also how much of a jacka$$ you are when your driving.

I'm fortunate enough to have one of the older green numbered license plates, the newer red ones in Massachusetts require that 2 are on the car. Only a rear plate is requred with the green.. I must say, that the majority (this is not an assumption) of Massachusetts State Troopers are instigating, lying, and egotistical ba$tards. Overpaid and underworked. I've had more experiences with them on the Mass highways that I care to have... My car is bone-stock so far, doesnt attract any unwanted attention. Not to say that I dont speed, (its tough not too in our Maxs...hehe), but many times I've been pulled over late at night just so they could look for a violation. MA State Troopers are getting more of a reputation for this....any others deal with these jerks? Bro, I'd say you were lucky to get out of it with no ticket......surcharges suck, and cops have a badge to do whatever they want and get away with it.

WTF, if you have the older plate you don't need it in the front? What kind of sense does that make, are you sure about that metal?

I don't think we Mainers have a "too low" law... But at 1am any exhaust is gonna sound really loud due to lack of other noises. I got a written warning for exhaust(it was warrented) and suspension(said it was shot) he gave me 48hr defect card. I got it fixed 2months later. I will say that 90% of the cops I know in Maine are pompous a-holes who enjoy expressing authority on people.

I've NEVER Seen a Harley Davidson pulled over for having a loud exhaust... ours are about the same type of sound as a crotch rocket. Mine in particular sounds like a deep throated Triumph Daytona.

(If I don't get railed on for those comments, I'll be suprised!)

Yeah, Nismos, I'm sure....Massachusetts changed to the red lettered plates around '95, and they require 2 plates. As long as a car is registered with the older green plates, only one is needed. I dont like an ugly license plate on the front of cars either.... thats just the result of cops *****ing that cars are easier to identify with 2 plates. ............cops suck

Yes, I do ride. Allow me to rephrase that. I have never seen a Harley Davidson pulled over for a loud exhaust in Maine. Anyway this is slightly getting off topic. the point I was going for is: In Maine Harleys are the loudest things on the road, and yet a car with a cat back exhaust will get pulled over much sooner than any harley, If the harley even did get pulled over.

Front plate looks like complete trash vs. no plate IMHO. You guys down in the States are so lucky compared to us Canadians.

People with rice cans do deserve to be pulled over. If you ever live backing a road, you'll know what i mean when you hear some ricer stomp on it just in front your house at 3am. I agree that cops blow though.

He didn't pull you over to be a ****, he found a legal reason to stop you and after speaking to you he determined that you weren't drunk or nervious about the stop (hiding something). So he told you the reason, and expects you to comply. I used to get pulled over in my Camaro all the time, the cop would check my license & registration ask me a couple of questions then when he let me go he would say "By the way the fuzzy dice in the mirror are illegal" or "you need a front license plate" but I never got a ticket. They just needed a reason to pull me over and check me out. Once I bought a less noticible car Mistsubishi Mirage and now my Max with a front plate, I haven't been pulled over in years. I've been thinking about removing my front plate, but I'd rather look at it than be pulled over all the time.

Don't complain if your car screams look at me!

I completely agree with you. I know of ONE cop in the area that is actually nice. All the rest are stuck up, power hungry neo-****'s. I have no use for all the **** that they put all import drivers through, all the gay laws and **** they make up on the spot. They have tried HARD to get me for ****. They have pulled me over and searched my entire car for something they could ticket. They didnt find ****.

And about the harleys...I ****ing hate harleys. They sound like some machine from hell. I've never heard a car with a louder exhaust than a harley. Hell, ive been talked to for my exhaust. Its BONE stock.

MAJORITY of cops = power hungry.

I completely disagree. Especially on bumper that wasnt even designed for it in the first place. Completely ruins the clean look of 99% of cars.

But as far as that goes, doesn't Maine have a loophole in the plate law concerning bumpers that don't have factory/stock mounting location for a plate? IE Corvettes? I'm not sure, just goin with word of mouth... And no, I don't particularly care for Harleys either.. Those excuses that were listed about why cops pull people over are basically "blue book laws" they are laws yes, but are so trivial that only when they are bored or "making an example" do they call upon them. Legal harrassment is what it usually seems like(unless you're the cop).

Is a front plate state law there? If so, what is the discussion about? Put it on!
