We have camera speed traps in this country. We have areas of high population density as well, and high performance cars are not an exercise in futility in this country. Niether is it in Japan. They have devices called radar detectors just like in this country.
The Renault guy has done exactly opposite of what you say. He actually brought BACK the Japanese sports car to the US market. The G35 and the 350Z and the up coming GTR are proof of this. They never went away in Japan. The 300ZXTT lasted from 1990-2002 in that country. Six years longer than in this country. He did not clean out performance in Japan. Ghosn is taking cars that already exist and making them better in that country. You need to read a case study.

He did do good. But he laid off people, cut programs and platforms that no Japanese managers dared to do without being fired. The feel good, low volume programs are now gone. So Sony followed and hired a Gaigin as CEO also.

I can't remember, the GTR is based on the Skyline platform but wit that 4.5L?

The old ZTT used the VE which is a more costly engine. I rented a G35 4Dr a few months back. Lot of power but not as smooth as the I30. Somebody at the office has a M45. Given the gas price, I would go for the G35 or M35. Really the 4th gen I30 is just a great everyday car. Enough power, reasonably reliable, very smooth and comfortable car.

Carlos Ghosn is not some "Renault guy". He has turned around entire corporations including the one with the burger. He made a three year plan to pull Nissan out of the red and completed it ahead of schedule.
I hear your side of the argument but I feel you are missing key points.

I remember seeing Renault's original intent was getting Nissan's engines. They got a lot more.

So he can speak at least 4 languages.

BTW that
running off half cylinders **** has been around since the 70s.. GM had it on several V8s. Maybe you need to
. Why don't you go buy a
3 cylinder Geo so you can save your "loot"?

I have a VW GTI 1.8T. This car is a lot of fun but you have to keep the RPM above 3K or else its a dog.

Japan has the yellow plate liter cars (today about 1.2L) that are exempted from the collision safety rules. These cars can save gas. But you do see MB S class trapped behind these yellow plate pickup trucks in the fast lane on the freeway. They have crazy drivers like we do.
I have a Toyota Prius also. It gets good gas mileage because the gas engine is only setup to do cruise mode. It lacks the high gas usage modes in a regular gas car. When you press the pedal to the floor, it adds the electric motor power instead of injecting more fuel into the engine.
The Europeans are using diesels more. These new diesels have a reactor on the exhaust to burn all the soot out of the exhaust. We may see these engines here in the near future.
That old Cadillac/Eaton 2-4-6-8 engine with the cylinder shutoff was scrapped because it had a huge problem at intro.

Japanese companies have larger corporate stock ownership compared to American companies. So they may form coalitions more readily. But due to Ghosn's reputation, I can imagine he has the run of the Nissan board.
