Just noticed today that the front brake pads are wearing very slowly compared to rear brake pads. I've replaced the front brake pads about 3 years ago and was thinking I'm about due for replacement (have 50,000 miles on them). When i checked the rear brake pads which I replaced about 15,000 miles ago, they were already half worn down. Nissan brake pad front/rear. These are not abs brakes.
I'm thinking a proportional valve problem. Is this valve built in to the master cylinder?

Im thinking either your emergency brake cable is stuck or your rear calipers are sticking.

 

Neither, I replaced the calipers and emergency cables last summer.

Sounds like calipers sticking and possibly causing e-brake to not disengage or vice versa.

 

I really don't think the calipers or parking brake cable is sticking. Last July, I replaced the calipers, new pins, hardware, pads, etc on both sides. Also ended up replacing the parking park cables. I have the parking brake cable adjusted very loosely. Cable moves freely. The rear wheels move freely no binding at all when jacking up the car. After a long drive, the calipers are not extremely hot. I've been through frozen calipers and binding parking brake cables before and the rear wheels are not displaying those symptoms. Just that the rear pads have lost over 50% wear since July. Thats why I ask about the master cylinder, seems to me the the car is using the rear brakes more than the fronts.

 

Are the front and rear pads the same manufacturer and type?

Just changed all my brake pads about a month ago and it's still making a high shrieking noise. Shouldn't it be gone by now?

 

what pads are you using? i knwo if you are using autozones lifetime warrenty pads or somehting like that they go pretty quickley

 

I hear almost all aftermarket pads are noisey. Most people I have talked to recommend nissan pads. Could the back pads be closer to the rotors then the front pads? Causing you to push the brakes harder to engage the front brakes? This is why I don't do my own brakes. I figure if I mess up on something in the engine the car won't go, if I mess up on the brakes it won't stop, which is a much scarier thing to me.

Hey, why pay someone to screw up your brakes, when you can do it yourself

 

The Dual Proportioning Valvle is seperate from the Master Cylinder. I was reading NFSM (Nissan Factory Shop Manual) and it recommends you bleed the brakes. The bleed pattern is Right Rear, Lef Front, Left Rear, Right Front. Just trying to give you other ideas than just the E-brake cable.
