Well, im getting my new starter from pinnacle nissan tomorrow (thursday). Im thinking about changing it myself. I cant seem to find a detailed write up. I can take off my intake and all that but im alittle scared to mess with the starter. Is it as simple as it looks. Can anyone give me any advice. I saw a write up on how to regrease it but it doesnt tell me exactly how to remove it. Is it bolted on? Screwed on? Is there any special instructions when replacing it? any special aligning that has to take place?

I appreciate all the support. Thanks
DEja(ckin)VU... you want pics.. i will give you pics... read on..

sorry im kindda pissed coz ive been trying to uninstallthe dammn starter and am stuck on 1 bolt.

i dont hink im using this breaker bar.... off to google to get more info.

I broke my ratchet in half. I had to turn the house upside down at 11:30 at night to find another one. I found it and continued to work on it. It wouldnt come off. I sprayed PB blaster and let it sink in for about 15-20 minutes.. I finally got it off.. i changed it with no problem. Unfortunately, the car has been sitting there for about 2 weeks dead!!! We got like 24" of snow.. when i put the starter, the battery was dead.. i jumped it with my other car (accord coupe v6).. when i went to turn it on, it cranked for about 45 seconds because it has been sitting there for so long.. i took it for a spin and when i came back, i shut it off and turned it back on.. wow, it sounds like a brand new car.. it starts up in about 1/2 a second.. im very happy... thanks again for all the help!!!!!!!!

PS: my check engine light is on and i have no clue why..i plugged everything back.. I gotta check that out next.. stay tuned for the next adventure..
good on ya..

do what u did in the second pic but with a longer/breaker bar will take it right off.
as of the bracket that`s blocking the second bolt, BENT it upward to loosen the bolt. and bent it back down after ur done.

yea, get a breaker bar at least 2' long and call it a day.

Also, make sure you're using the correct size socket cuz your rounding the tranny - engine bolt down pretty bad. You should probably get a new one when you get a chance.

do you have a long metal pipe? if you do, just put it over your ratchet (the second pic, the first pic is a wrench), and pull. It's easier than you think, and requires little effort. I dont have a breaker bar, i just used a pipe and a regular ratchet.

Tavarish, thanks for making it clearer. I was making a mistake there.. thinking to myself about how to fit 2" to the bolt. But its the ratchet handle you guys are refering to -- correct?

I will arrange for a longer handle or get a pipe.

Thanks guys...really appreciate it.
will let you know this evening.

woohoo... I finally managed to get the starter off the engine.
Quite easy once i figured out the tool required.

i didnt have the Breaker bar or a pipe so guess what i used.... Old Vaccum Cleaner Extension. It was a perfect fit, adn it took about 10 seconds of effort to turn the screw loose.

Cant believe i spent so much time on it .. but hey i got it done - didnt I?

:-)

Thanks for all the help .. i will start another thread about the starter A-Z with pics etc.

ciao.
