is the drop resister suppose to be hot after you drive?
well i went to the junk yard and i got a drop resistor off a 97-98 max and put it on my 96 max and i drove for a mile and back to seethe difference and it worked ok, shifted good and everything but when i got back i went to fasten the bolts and it was real hot so i am just wondering if its suppose to heat up while i drive.......

I do remember one time when I was at the track and I unhooked it before I ran it was just a little warm but not exactly hot.

Yes it is supposed to get hot. That is why it is a big ceramic-body wire-wound resistor.

Mine was I wouldnt say Hot but I had to wait to disconnect it. I didnt really care for the drop resistor mod too much. Maybe I didnt use it in the right application driving wise but I connected back up after a drive up the street and back. Felt like my engine mounts were about to bust with how thrusty the shifts are.

well i didnt get the resistor to do the mod cause my tranny is already on its way out as it is, i got it cause i read in a thread that someone said that they got one at junk yard for $15 which had low milage and it made their shifts alot smoother, so i decided i wanted one with low milage to

A resistor is a resistor. They are all approx 12 ohms unless they are toast which means there is no resistance. They do not change resistance with time or use, so whoever said they got one that shifted smoother, their original one had to be gone.

Interesting, there was one sitting at the junkyard? Must have been a modded max.
