Cut front coil

A friend of mine suggested that we (he and I) can cut the front coils(struts) 1/2 to 1 coil to make the front lowers to about 1 inch. I told him that will put some tension to the stock shocks, but he told me that won't cause much of the problem. Any comment?

Cutting the stock springs is dangerous. It is not at all similar to getting real aftermarket lowering springs, and can make your vehicle handle dangerously.

what year max do u have?

i had cut my 96 maxima coils. the front ones were 2 coils and the rear were 2 1/2 coils. it was bouncy as hell but then i got ride of them and bought coilovers.yippi. but cutting it and stuff isnt that hard and performance wise i would not suggest going over 80mph. good luck,peace brian

My Max is 99. I told him that we shouldn't but he keep on insisted that 1/2 a coil of strut won't be that bad. He said that if the front end being lowered to about an inch the car could accelerate better due to down force drag of the engine and allow the wheels to stick to the road better. I hope I can pursuade him more. Thanks for the tips.
PS: I travel on the highway daily to work so above 80 mph is diffinitely a must..

I don't want to go that low yet. I'm saving $$ for 02 Max though. Maybe just an 1/2 or 1" off the front end.

He said that when the Max accelerates the head lift off so much therefore the acceleration are being steal away. I told him that it ain't true but he kept on insist on his theory and on cutting the front strut. Now I have some one to back up to.

when you are launching the car in drag racing there is weight transfer from the front to the rear which causes loss of traction in FWD cars and wheel hop. while it is true that lowering the front end of the car will help in reducing weight transfer, the rear shocks have to be reasonably stiff for this to work. the stock rear shocks are not stiff enough and as a result the weight is still transferred.
