Question about noise in exhaust

When I first got my max about 3 years ago i got the apc inferno series muffler and took it to a muffler shop to have the resonator removed and the muffler welded on. It sounded alright and was what i wanted at the time. later on i got the cattman headers and when i drove it with them on it had a raspy rattling or i guess u can say a buzzing sound and it always seemed to come from the muffler. so i thought it could be the cat or flex pipe so i had them both cut off and had 2.5 pipng all the way back to the muffler. still did it. by now i was getting very frustrated cuz that sound can make u very upset while driving wondering if anyone can hear it going down the road. I ended up ordering the cattman muffler cuz i always loved the way ceasars car sounded with the cattman setup so i went to have it welded on in place of the apc and IT STILL DID IT!!!!! I put up with it for a few months and got fed up with it and just went to the muffler shop (once again) and had them cut everything off but the headers and i had them turn the muffler sideways and weld it onto the end of the headers. oh my god i have never heard exhaust sound so beautiful especially when revving. the only downside is if you dont have hangars placed to support it it will scrub the roads, im not lowered so no prob for me, and it is a bit sluggish at low rpms in 2nd and after. about 2 weeks ago i decided i wanted to lower my car so i went to the handy dandy super dooper muffler shop and had them run 2.5 inch pipng back to the muffler again and asked them what in the hell i could do about that noise and they said it was because i did not have a resonator, is this true?? can anyone confirm this? because i have heard cars without resonators and it doesnt make that nasty sound at all. please any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

On motorvate.ca he has a y/unresonated-b and he gets the rasp so I would say it is the absence of the resonator contributing/causing this. The headers also add to the raw sound.
