Changing the rear valve cover gasket requires the Upper Intake manifold to be pulled... Make sure you change the Valve cover Gasket, the Three spark plug guide tube seals and the 10 grommets around each bolt.

Its really not all that bad. Ive done it three different times, all on different maxima's and its jsut time consuming. If your macanically inclined at all , tackle the job yourself.

you can look on the FSM or Haynes on how to do it. but defenetly do not let any mechanic do it for $325, thats way to much money IMO. at most u will spend 50 bucks in gaskets n stuff u need... find someone that can help you and study the haynes really good for wen u do it. i don kno of a writeup though since its already in the haynes and fsm. goodluck

Definately a DIY. I would expect to spend about 3 hours or so on the job. The Haynes manual isnt a whole lot of help. There are some things that I would consider gotchas. There are 2 support bolts on the back of the Upper IM that are hard to see. Also the EGR Bolts are easily missed. Both of these gotchas are in between the fire wall and the engine.
