swap to auto climate control mod....again

I know some of this is covered in the FAQ section, but...

Does anyone know if the auto climate control unit will work if put in place of the manual unit?

I understand it would not perform any 'auto' functions due to lack of temp sensors. I just want it to control fan speed, adjust temp up and down, etc. It looks so much nicer than the manual unit.

Thanks...

I dont think it will work mainly becuase the harnesses are different. Plus the fan contol with the auto climate contol is operated by external relays and resistors. The manual controls has that built right into it.
Has anyone attempted this mod yet?

I don't find the auto climate control so wonderful. Not nice being practically blown out of the car when I turn it on. I'd just as soon have the manual one.

i'm very curious to find out. i thought i had read a long time ago on here that the electrical harnesses are the same. it seemed to me most people didn't wanna do it because of the elaborate network of sensors. if i can find a cheap one on Ebay i'll try it and let everybody know.

well big surprise, but the auto control unit is NOTHING like the manual one. i seriously doubted it would be, but i wanted to prove it. took my dash apart yesterday to replace the stereo and the connectors are completely different. i've got some pics but have yet to figure out how to insert them here. dammit not being able to search....

on the flip side, i gotta good deal on a used digital climate control module from a '96 maxima if anyone's interested. i can send pics and all. shoot me a pm.

I have the harness needed to do the 98-99 auto climate control swap, I have all teh sensors and harnesses too if your interested let me know. Matter of trial and error and you will get it right, all of your help is in the Haynes manual in the diagram sectons.

now that is definetly an interesting proposition...but with my luck i'd short out my entire electrical system. i think that swap would take someone with much more time and skills than i've got.

I have the auto climate. It may look nicer, but it sucks functionality wise. I'd much rather have the manual controls. Less **** to break too.

I have auto and wouldn't have it any other way. I never got why you all hate it so much. I'm pretty sure it's a bandwagon thing for many people.

Everytime you put it on it turns on the AC no matter what temperature. I'll agree that it does look better than the manual though.

Not if you use the ECON mode.
