So o2 sensors can pull a ghost code when they are broken or intermitenly working? I always thought o2 sensors brought an CEL....not a ghost code...

rear o2 was repaced at 97,000 miles but started to trigger the sevice enginge soon light at around 90,000 miles. i would reset the ecu every other week until finally the light would come on 5-10 miles after reset. that is when i bought i new one. car has 100,00 miles now and the 2 front o2's are still original. car is a fed spec 99

I replaced one 02 sensor on warranty several years ago when the mileage was about 25K, IIRC. I'm now at 63K, mostly highway miles, and haven't changed any of the other 02 sensors out and the car runs like new.

I replaced the rear O2 sensor because of the Cel at 96k. The rear had no effect on my mileage. I replaced both front O2 sensors at 102k. These helped my city mileage greatly. Now getting 25 overall.

I threw a code a while back for one of the o2, but few days after it turned on, the SES turned off, so I ignored it. A while later a different o2 sensor turned the SES light on, but once again it soon after turned back off without me doing anything. Does these mean the o2's are still fine? I have about 85k on my car btw.

Changed first one at 140k or so (bosch $80 autozone) 2nd at about 160k (walker $60 oxygensensors.com) and the rear is still working at 170k...
Still gotta stare at that cel though (egr problems).... Hope that helps!

Good question, it would be nice if that were true (same happened for me), but I highly doubt it.

02 Sensor Question

CEL is throwing 0136 (Rear Heated O2, Bank 1 Sensor 2)... is this the sensor located behind the cat converter or the upstream sensor behind the radiator?
