no it doesn't mean you need a new transmission. it just means that the shift linkage is not in the right position, maybe it slipped or bent. I am sure someone on here can help more, but in the meantime I know i have seen a post with similar topic before on here, search with google and see if you can find the thread. "automatic shift linkage problems site:maxima.org" or something along those lines

Sorry folks, but I do not have permission to start my own thread for some reason. So I had to revive an abandoned thread (I had to know this relatively quick). I wanted to know if a 5th Generation In-dash CD changer will fit in our Maximas. I don't want to simply have a CD player or have to spend 5 minutes in the trunk trying to switch CD's. All in all, I just want to have an in-dash CD changer that doesn't cost $1000 and have a millions lights on it. Any help in the area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately I do not have the knowledge you seek. Try visiting the Audio and Electronics Forum. I am not going to flame you, but you may need to start praying the mods do not ban you for a day or two for jacking a thread.
