Groaning sound from rear brakes?

Hello, my dad and I installed some brakes on the back of my maxima the other day. Well we got them installed with no problem once we got the tool to turn the caliper back in. However we couldnt use the shims because they didnt fit. Anyways, the pads are making a groaning noise whenever I step on the brakes. At first I thought that maybe it was the newness on the pads and that they just needed to be broken in. Well its been 2 weeks now and they are still groaning? Has anyone else had this problem? Is it because we didint install the shims? Could it be that duralast gold pads are crap? Thanks in advance!!!

if i remember right, the rear pads have nubs on them that need to fit into the slots on the piston. if the they're not fitting right , the pad can sit on an angle, which can cause noise because of poor contact with rotor. also the pad surface size/shape may be slightly different than the pads you took off, and they can rub the rusted area of the rotor and make noise= at the hub or outer lip.

Mine did the same thing but only on turns and that was because the E-brake cable was stuck partially engaged. I guess a frozen caliper would also cause it but I doubt that's what it is in your case.
