Water pump replacement: Duralast vs. Bosch?

Any reason why I should pay $90 for a Bosch water pump instead of $50 for a Duralast? Both come with lifetime warranties.

Glad you posted this...

my pump just crapped out on me too...is this a difficult DIY project? messing with the timing chain scares me a little. if you have any FAQs or other how to docs or links on this i'd greatly appreciate it. the cheapest quote i could find on parts and labor was $580!

Which is the OEM pump mfg?

Being the OEM pump usually lasts well over 100K miles, I'd go with an OEM replacement.

So what if it's warrantied, if the pump goes who the he11 wants to do that job again to replace a defective aftermarket pump!

Just picked up a brand new Bosh pump for $90 from Pep Boys. They showed it as a 3.5 hour project which resulted in a $280 quote. Still WAY more than I personally would spend, but obviously a lot less than $580 total.

Speaking of which... I have the FSM (amr1776, I can send it to you or tell you where to get it... just PM me) and will be going by that procedure when I do mine, but I too would appreciate some helpful tips.

For starters, the FSM lists the following steps after removal and inspection of the old pump:

1. Scrape old liquid gasket from water pump and timing chain tensioner covers
2. Apply new liquid gasket
3. Return crank to original position
4. Install timing chain tensioner and remove stopper pin; rev at 3k for a bit
5. Install cylinder block drain plug
6. Reinstall all other parts in reverse order of removal

...So at what point do I install the pump?

Haha..don't you love those instructions? I've replaced my tensioner, my mechanic did the pump, but I wasn't present.

The steps are to remove the two access covers
1. Carefully remove tensioner...check the stickies for tensioner replacement
2. remove the water pump, but carefully...don't bump hard enough to cause it to fall off the sprockets.
...continue on with your instructions as you noted (I think you missed the steps in the FSM)

Neither, Factory OEM, The Folks in Japan Designed your engine with specific parts. Other companies design parts to fit your specific engine.

I only listed the steps after removal of the pump because that's the part I'm confused about. I'm fine up until that point.

The only thing I'm missing is at what point to install the new pump. Looking at the steps from the FSM, it looks like the pump would go in with the last step. I know they said to rotate the crank 20 degrees to give some room to work, though, so I would expect the pump to go back in before it says to return the crank to its original position. The FSM gives no indication either way... hence the question.

My local stealership wanted $105. They freakin' suck... seems like every part they sell, they charge at or around MSRP.

www.pinnaclenissan.com

I would pay 15$ extra for the OEM part, especially for the H2O pump.

Aha, but I got my pump instantly, so I can install it this afternoon. Overnight shipping would have costed me even more.

The best place I go to order any Maxima part is http://www.buynissanparts.com/ they by far have the lowest prices, great customer service, and above all are very prompt in shipping. Give them a try.
