problem installing front strut bar in a GLE

hey guys, I'm having problem installing an otto racing front strut bar into my 1999 GLE. There is a small piece of metal seated on strut tower that's blocking the right ring for the bar. Any good advice on how to remove this piece of not structurally important metal?

Ahhh...I can't believe it!

I had the same problem with the same type of FSTB, this may sound insane but I just got a hammer and smashed the $hit out of that piece, you may cut it to have a cleaner look.

Try turning the whole thing around.

See if mounting that piece on the other side and the other piece on the side in the picture works.

that doesnt work either... ive tryed every variation of backwards and unside down. the only solution is to hammer it down or take a pair of side cutters. (which is what i did.) later i got a CF hood and had to take off the strut bar. damn after market hood didt fit with it on.

That sucks. I don't think it would hurt to cut it off.

no it doesnt hurt anything. im not quiet sure of its purpose, but i cut mine off and nothing has happened yet. i thought i might of been a mount for the stock air box. (i had put a CAI before the strut bar, and couldnt remember if it was a stock mount or not. but this guy apperntly hasnt put on a CAI so who knows what ts for.)

this comes up often it needs to be in the stickies. its a 99 thing. just cut the metal tap off, hammer it down, or chistle it away. it is not needed.

the easiest of all would be some side cutters. i got mine off in 30 sec. just a couple of snips.
