Your mechanic most likely won't even rebuild it. He will outsource it to a dedicated transmission shop. Most regular mechanic shops won't dare open a transmission up, they'll just take it out of the car and take it to a shop that does them all day every day.

Better off buying a used trans and throwing it in. I had mine rebuilt and it locked up 3 times on me, now six months later my drivers side axle seal is leaking really really bad.

If you do like the guy on motorvate.ca, it should be ok. At the lastest update he said that he makes about 80 000 miles with his own rebuilt...

Motorvate's rebuild only involves changing the diff bearings. There is a very good chance that the input shaft bearings and mainshaft bearings also need changed.

why would you not replace all the bearing while the transmission is open?? I believe a bearing kit is somewhere around the $150-250 range. You might even want to replace the bearings and synchros($250-350)...
