injen fake cai vs. weapon r short ram????

i had a weapon r short ram hi flow intake that sounded like a v10 monster.....had some tornado looking inside too....but on the injen cai that i switched to now....it has just like tubing with nothing in the inside and goes straight down next to my tranny sorta by the block....is this really a good intake since it doesnt go to the fender ? also will it be better than the new weapor r "secret weapon " intake they just came out with thats hi flow HAI short ram also???? ......i'm not sure if i'm really sucking in colder air or if its any different.... i have a 5spd also

Put your stock intake back on. The only true CAI is the real Injen one - IMO other intakes do nothing on a max. Some even claim that you lose power w/ them. The fact that you have a 5spd does not matter.

yea the onlything u will gain power with is a "true" cai..ie, place racing/cattman cai wich requires drilling a 3inch hole out of ur engine bay. However, i just got my k&n cone filter with adaptor from ebay for the sound alone. Wont notice the tiny powerloss once i get my y-pipe on.

It wont sound faster...its sounds louder. Don't waste the money on it. Such a waste. Save some more $ and get a Place Racing. Even better to buy a Bomz CAI off ebay then the HAI. At least with the CAI style you could customize a box or something and run lines for cooler air.

For intake information, you should read the Stickies. The Injen is a WAI, it sucks in radiator fan heat, that doesn't sound like "cold" air to me.

ebay bomz cai, + k&n or JWT pop-charger filter, works great, love it.

I Have had stock, short-ram, and CAI on my car, by far the CAI is my favorite.

I am surprised that nobody has taken the CAI kits a step farther for ease of installation.

Notice the Place Racing CAI (or Cattmans) that require a three inch hole to be drilled into the frame.

Now notice the stock intake that has that extra resonator tube running to a compartment underneath the battery.

Why not make a vented compartment under the battery and run the intake tubing in the same general direction as the Injen, but have it terminate under the battery? -- This is there the PR and Cattmans end up.

A kit like that might cost a bit more for the fabrication of the compartment under the battery, but would not have the disadvantage of having to drill a 3" hole in the frame. Makes the install a lot easier.

i have a weapon r intake, i love the way it sounds and performs, but its a dragon series and the filter doesnt seem too good for filtration, so ill prolly replace it with a k+n filter

I don't think Berk makes an intake for the 4th Gen, they do for 5th and maybe 6th.

With stock intake, my 0-60 was 6.8-7.0 via Gtech Pro
With short ram + k&n filter plus subwoofer and amp got about same thing as above, 6.8-7.0
Then with short ram with stock weight, i got 6.58

For me, the intake was worth it, I just swapped from my old auto into the 5spd, and improved quite a bit! Now I just need the y-pipe

Cai

I can tell you from personal experience that the PR CAI is not that difficult to install and the 3" hole you have to cut is fairly hidden behind the batter tray. As far as the benefits, I noticed a smoother acceleration and plus the sound of the intake is pleasing to me. My car has never been on a dyno, so I have not idea what the real increase is. I had a JWT pop charger on before the CAI, which had similar improvements, but declined when the compartment heat increased. As far as I know, the closed compartment under the battery tray is the only true CAI option for the 4th Gen Maxima.

Or, you could just throw on the Short Ram one (stillen style?) like I have, and leave the OEM snorkel thing so that nice cool air comes up from the grill to the intake....?

it wouldnt really be a big deal if there was a legitimate post made... maybe thats just my opinion... he just gave an opinion on a post over 4 years old... the original post didnt really contain any facts. and all he did was post advice to a 4 year old thread. its just a little weird that someone with over 300 posts would do something like that... not hating just wondering why more or less...
