Adjusting Spark plug gap .043"?

The manual says .043" gap, but I only have a .040" & .045" gauge, for now which is better to use for the engine and plugs til I get a correct gauge? I don't think there is much to worry about with that small of a difference but educated opinions would be nice. Thanks!

Gap them to a loose .040 and forget about it. Going larger isn't good, the larger the gap, the more voltage needed for the spark to jump. That puts an additional load on the coils, which isn't a good idea.

Remember the gap gets larger as the plugs ware out.

are you using pre gapped iridum plugs? if so, leave the gap alone.. it isnt the best idea to adjust the iridum plugs gap...

The ones I have are NGK Double platinums. They are on average in between the .040 and .045, so I did just leave them alone. Thanks for the input!

Yeah, I don't think you're suppose to gap platinum plugs anyways.

Anyone who puts a plug into their car and doesn't check the gap and adjust as necessary shouldn't have a car. PERIOD

If its ok, great, but don't take anything like plug gap for granted.

most plugs are pre-gapped to .045. Most nissan vehicles recommend .044. A wrong gap can lead to a misfiring cylinder. And it takes very little deviation to do it!

You also have to be careful when you install them. If you accidently bump the electrode when you install it, you had better recheck the gap as it doesn't take much to bend them and change the gap.

what about under gapping, i knew stock was set.043 but happily installed my new set at .037 I couldn't see less of a gap hurting anything, i figured less strain on the coils.
