stereo broke, replaceable?

my cd player broke the other day, and i would like to replace it. i saw the same stock bose stereos with the cd and tape players on ebay for pretty cheap. i was wondering if the radio is coded to avoid theft (does it need a special code to be installed into another car)? also, is this possible to do by myself, i have almost no experience in car radios.
thanks

It's all plug and play, assuming you have Bose since you're looking at Bose on eBay.

No theft prevention at all, just take apart the center console there, unplug it, and plug in the new one.

For the 1-200 you're going to spend on another Bose HU, just get an aftermarket HU.

Yes, AFAIK all Bose are plug and play, from for example the Pathfinder, QX4, 350z, G35, etc. I know at least those have been used by members on this forum as replacements.

just get an aftermarket HU

the stock bose ones are nice, but they are too pricey used for what they are. best taking that money and getting an aftermarket hu with more features than a stock hu.

Unless you get a nice 350z or Pathfinder with the built in 6-cd changer, which you'd be hard pressed to find an aftermarket in the same price range as a stock Bose, when bringing into account adapters and such, or all new speakers as well.

yeah i dont need anything fancy, so the ebay bose ones suit me pretty well. i looked at the back of the 99 one though in the photo, and the input for plug is completely different from the 1993 one, how would that work. i have a 96, but the stereo looks like the 93 excactly.

nevermind, i got myself confused for a second. i meant the 96 back looks a little different from the 99, it is missing the little black round port and has an extra white one, what should i do with that, is it ok?

The black round port is for a telephone, and the extra white may be for another CD changer or something. It still has the two harness connections as the '95/96, and the power lead as well. It'll work just fine.

I got a 99 Bose for $45 on ebay, didn't work...no volume other than that it functioned. So I fixed my 96 Bose display,it was very easy to do and re-installed it. They refunded my money and let me keep it. So I am trying to see how to fix the 99 Bose since I got it for free now. The 96 cd changer plug is the only difference the 99 cd changer is square. The 99 is really nice, very big buttons and display. If I can't fix it I will cut it up for a fake faceplate for a microvision screen if someone wants one.
