Installing Tokico Illumina kit, hints/tips?
Hey guys, Iv decided to finally drop some money into my max and I purchased the tokico illumina kit (springs and struts) after reading great reviews. Im going to install them myslef along side my brother. Im i newbie when it comes it working on cars but my brother is the opposite.
The Illumina kit is still in the mail but am I right that the kit doesnt come with new strut boots/bumper stops? Can i pick up some new bumper stops and boots at my local autoparts store? I know im gona to have to get a spring compressor and i figure i can probly rent one there. Me and my brother recently got an air compressor so we will be able to use air tools
Feel free to chime in with past experience/tips for installing all new struts and lowering springs.

I also got the same exact kit a year ago and it didn't include the strut boots or bump stops. I just cut my stock bump stops and ordered new strut boots off the internet, I don't remember what site. I didn't need a spring compressor, I just opened the strut mounts in between two tires with two people standing on each tire. Then when the Illuminas, I didn't have to compress the springs to get the strut mount on. It took me about 3 and a half hours, and it wasn't difficult at all.
Sweet thanx for the input, giving me some confidence for when i install them, Wut settings did u put yours on and how did they compare to ur stock suspension. I plan on also gettin a rear sway bar
Interesting. So on the lower settings u get still the 1.5inch drop but a nice comfortable ride. I want to eliminate some body roll but still not have a harsh ride so i think ill go with like a 3 setting.

When I did my rear struts I had a problem with the nut on the strut holding the assembly together. It was rusted so bad that it just kept stripping. After I pulled the assembly out, I used a dremel and cut the nut off. Just something to look out for. I didn't have any problems with the front struts. Other than that it's pretty easy.
When you go to put the new assembly together dont use airtools on the nut that holds it together for the rears. This will damage the selector. I've seen it happen and it even says not to do this in the instruction paperwork. But you can definitely use the airtools to remove/replace the assembly from/to the car. Remember to torque everything down good. And get an alignment when youre done...your tires and wallet will thank you.
