after a good bit of problems with the part labeling on the discs, ACT overnighted me the RIGHT disc and refunded me for my clutch kit....I still had to pay all the labor equal to two clutch installations.

anyway, my ACT clutch is in and it feels really nice. it engages closer to the floor and the clutch pedal instead of feeling like it's not there, feels like a BMW 3-series pedal...and man is it SMOOTH....if anyone wants one I can get you a killer deal since ACT screwed up mine.

How much was it (when you paid) for the ACT? I just got Centerforce Dual Friction installed am not liking it all that much. There is a lot of chatter, tho it has come down a bit over the past 300+ miles, but is still very rough at times. When cruising in a gear, say 4th, and you let off the gas coasting in gear, then get on it, it seems to skip two or three times before it takes off. Very, very annoying. Haven't really revved it up to much but the flywheel is looking good so far. I'm gonna wait a few hundred more miles before I do any racing...

Congrats Bri on the install.....I know headaches are a pain...maybe after I finish up these few other minor details such as CAI and Y pipe I"ll take u up on the ACT offer....especially since we are basically neighbors (same city)..

Yes I did buy it at Stillen but at the time I couldn't find another alternative (this was in the fall/winter of this past year). I had searched around but didn't find anything other than Centerforce (I also asked for options in a post, but no one responded). I rememeber from a few years back people talking fairly well of centerforce, had no clue of ACT, and wasn't going with a Nissan clutch...

I haven't tried the ACT in the Max yet, but the ACT I just put in my Miata was awesome. Almost stock pedal feel, very smooth take up, and very good grip. If you go with the ACT, I'd suggest going with their street setup and not the 4 puck or 6 puck setups.

Looking to get a clutch soon for my Max... BriGuyMax, what you think you can get a clutch setup for (disc, pressure plate, t/o bearing, pilot bearing?) Thanks.

BriGuyMax...on your new clutch

I'm going to need a new clutch soon, mine is showing signs of wear when the car is cold...I was wondering if your new clutch still "moans" as many stock maxima clutches do. I'm talking about that strange sound when the clutch is engaging (goes away when the pedal fully up or down or gearshift in neutral). Does anyone else out there know what I'm talking about? Thanks.

You are referring to Maxima Clutch Groan. MCG is heard only when the clutch is engaging. It sounds somewhat like a cow mooing. A cow with a sore throat. MCG is an unlovely characteristic, but not a symptom of a defect.

My '99 GXE (26K miles, bought new, gently driven) has MCG and occasional chatter. I regard the clutch as a low point in an otherwise fine car. If this clutch ever wears out I will not replace it with Nissan factory parts.

You can do a Search on Maxima Clutch Groan and get lots of hits.

I did a search on MCG and couldn't really find if an aftermarket clutch solves the moaning sound. So does the ACT or Centerforce clutch get rid of "MCG?" Or is the problem something besides the clutch?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but if I recall from past posts, Centerforce does still have groan, ACT does not.

Yes, the ACT WILL get rid of the clutch groan...My new clutch has a LITTLE chatter right now, but that should go away before 1000 miles. The big thing that I have noticed about the ACT is how quickly and smoothly it engages...and how hard it grips...If I let off the gas in first around 2k and then get right back on it, with my old clutch my car would jerk a few times before taking off...now it just goes. I won't be able to open it up and see what it really can do unitl I have it broken in (going to the track next wednesday AFTER break-in period) I'll keep updating my experience with it...so far I really like it. As for people that want a REALLY good deal....I can only do it for 1 person...so if you ARE serious about it..I can get you one for between 250-300 shipped...
FYI- I got mine for 320 shipped...so even the 300 would be a sweet deal. I can only do this once becuase ACT sent me the wrong disc orginally and it gave me a BIG hassle...so they want to make it right....

BTW- ACT's customer service is GREAT...if you want to ask them any questions...ask for Jim, and tell him Brian sent you.

How did you figure out your ACT Clutch was a 300ZX Clutch? I ordered mine around the same time as you so now I am wondering. When the 300ZX Clutch was installed how did it feel? I have some decent Clutch Cladder but I think that it may be contributed to my oil leak? Thanks for your input.

New clutch

If I counted right there are 4 people on this thread alone interested in a new clutch soon and Act seems to be a preference. Has anyone ever done a group deal on this before. I didn't see anything in the group deal forum. Any thoughts?

..

Ethan,

He had a 250mm disk (s/b 240mm) which would not fit correctly on the plate.
