Does not beep when lights on and engine off!

Countrymen,

Just bought a 97SE, discovered this problem. The door open indicator in the gauge cluster does not work, the car does not beep when the lights are on and the car is turned off,the car locks even if the key is in the ignition switch. This is wierd! My 95 GXE was just the opposite and behaved normally.Looks like thay're all related to a fuse/relay.Has anybody come across this problem?

thanks,
Jay

the device is located under the steering wheel, that plastic piece that covers under the steering wheel. Remove that piece and you'll see the device, stuck to the plastic, either its unplugged, or you need a new one. Either way very easy and innexpensive fix.

Do the courtesy lights on the doors come on when the door opens? Also, if you lock the car with the keys in the ignition is the door open then? I had a similar problem that was caused by the push switch on the bottom of the door jam. Thats another thing you could check. Cheap and easy too...just like the moms of most the members here. Hahaha. j/k

I unplugged that little box under the stearing wheel cause i HATE the beaping...fuggin anoying if you ask me....

However, doing this does NOTHING but remove the noises made by leaving the lights on or having the door open with the key in the ignition...

Like mentioned above i believe its a problem with the switch on the door jam...
