I own a 96' Maxima GXE Auto and I was looking at my engine the other day and I noticed that there was a great amount of slack in the throttle cable. Now I know that there is supposed to be "a little", but there is quite a bit. How do I go about tightening the cable (taking the slack out)? Thanks

slack

I was looking under the hood too a few days ago and I noticed that there is some play with the throttle cables...is this normal or is this due to the daily drive and it needs to be tighten up a bit?

shouldn't there be some play on it--I just want to know if this is normal before going through and tightening it.

=) thanks

Re: slack

Be careful. There should be some slack. I went thru the same dilemna. The way to test if you have too much slack is to floor the accelerator, with engine off of course, and have someone look at the throttle cable in the engine bay. You will find, that even with some slack, the throttle still opens all the way.

Having said that, I still adjusted my throttle cable and made it a wee bit tighter. Why?? Cause there was too mauch play at the step in point. Just at the point when you just touch the pedal there was no response until I'd pushed the throttle some ways in. Tightening it reduced that play.
