Clutch Question

This is kind of a dumb question but I'll ask anyway. I drove my friends 2000 5spd Maxima. Compared to my clutch, his felt much lighter and smoother than mine. I don't think the 4th gen clutch is that hard to begin with but where I currently live, I get a lot of stop and go traffic and the clutch gets to me after a while. On the 2000 clutch, It was so light it almost felt like I could push the clutch in with one finger. Is it possible to make the 4th gen clutch feel like the 5th gen? Are there any parts you can swap in from a 5th gen that will make it lighter/smoother?

What stage clutch do you have? If you currently have a stage 2 or 3 clutch try getting a stage 1 clutch..

Also, why wouldnt his clutch feel better then yours? He has a 2000 car ...

You can swap in the 5th gen clutch assembly, yes. Get the stock 5th gen clutch disc and pressure plate from www.allnissanparts.net.

It's a stock clutch. I just wasn't sure if it was the actual clutch itself or maybe a slave cylinder or something like that.

Would that fit in a 4th gen?

I don't think the 4th gen clutch is that hard. Now that I think about it, most of the other manual cars that I've driven have had a lighter clutch pedal, but you really don't want it too light. I think you lose some control and responsiveness with a light clutch.

If you think your clutch is hard try driving a 1995 Z28 Camaro 6 speed. I had to sell mine and get an auto cause it was so unbearable in traffic. I don't think the 4th gen is really that hard at all for normal driving, but it's hard enough to make my leg tired in bumper to bumper traffic. It would be nice to have a lighter clutch for that reason. As for the notchy feeling, I think Maximas are notchy compared to most other cars i've driven. A lot of people say their tranny shifts notchy. Try putting a good synthetic fluid in. It helps a lot but won't completely get rid of the notchy feeling.

well, if this helps, when I first bought my my car (second) the clutch was like a feather...and I was never able to get used to the feeling of the clutch (compared to me old one) till it started getting a little more heavier...not sure why it changed it's presure as time went on...b ut one thing I know... the clutch broke on my after one year (of me driving) and my experience with manulas was not a factor.

as stages increase the pedal feels heavier... stock 4th, stock 5th, stage 1, 2 ,3 ....(someone correct me on this If I'm wrong)
