It's actually physical chemistry. More physics though. I took a class last year with problems just like this, only it was steam going into pipes.

rain is a big question for me, as I would know how to route the opening so the rain doesnt get all over the alternator and electrical components.

vasily, what did you do to make sure rain doesnt enter (and if it does, where does it go?)

Still haven't seen any funtional scoops yet. Out of all the posts I like Caesars idea the best. Keeps the stocker look without cutting holes in the hood and is functional. It would be interesting if someone tested these in a wind tunnel to see what gets the maximum forced cold air.

all i did was use weather stripping on the bottom of the scoop and rtv. now it seals so good that the water doesnt get under the scoop and into the engine bay. the way i tested it was i used a water hose and ran the water on top of the scoop.

You keep saying it's better to get air through the fog light. How do you get the intake filter to be behind the fog lights? You mean the injen kind which sits right behind the radiator?
the place racing intake requires a 3" hole beside the battery to be drilled in order for a pipe to be routed outside the engine bay and into the compartment behind the foglight. You can get a knock off of the pr intake on ebay for like only 30 bucks.

the fact is that the hole is very tiny. If you think that the forced air will go into such a tiny hole and effectively reach the filter...you are wrong.

Jimes setup is nice since it separates teh intake from the rest of the engine bay. By having the pipe end exactly where the headlight opening is...it forces the air to have a DIRECT path into the intake.

an INdirect path will be close to useless.
