Anyone Have A Funtional Hood Scoop????

Has anyone out there fabricated or installed a decent looking, full functional hood scoop on their Maxima?

I have seen a couple of Maxima's with them. Personally I think the stock hood looks alot better.

99grnmaxgxe, you should pull that garbage off the front of your car. It is killing its looks.

well this is way off but i have a unique setup in which is a three part step:

1. Lightweight battery (takes up very little room in the engine bay compared to stock)
2. K&N filter / frankencar midpipe setup - this particular xtreme flow filter has the filter element in the typical cone shape and also on the top of the filter
3. remove clearance light for small airflow increase

this setup is of course what i use on race day, and is nothing like a hoodscoop sorta setup in function or cosmetics.

if someone did go with a hood scoop it would seem like you should have the scoop where it can blow cool air on the filter ?

hey ceasar, what kind of lightweight battery do you use and do you only use it on a track day or daily?

I saw your method on one of your track videos and it was pretty interesting.

A good looking hood-scoop??? is that possible

More seriously, from what i know about them they dont really give you any advantage until about 150 mph, which these cars wont do (except mine of course) and at that point they are doing more hurt than help because of the loss by drag, not worth it if you ask me

I was thinking about it, but it leaves the sticky crap all over my bumper, don't know how to get it off.

The hood scoop doesn't quite do it for me. Seems like there are some fitment issues around the front of it where the hood was cut.

This is Big_E_Dog's old max, he has a new 2nd gen with the same type of hood scoop. That one is very functional as he placed it to go over his custom air filter box, so it actually takes in cold air.

WOW, that thing looks plain UGLY!...ruined a perfectly good hood. Also how much gains does it actually provide u? 1-2hp? And what about the rain getting inside the engine compartment?..... I think Ceasar's set up is the smartest one, when u on the track just take the corner light off and you are good to go.

well you know i have had several intake setups. i think i was most unhappy with the injen intake, the car used to even ping when i used it, and the piping was always so darn hot.

i ended up going back to a frankencar setup and started racing in the allmotor class over here. all of the honda all motor guys remove their headlights and after looking at their engines, they were always designed so that the filter was sitting right behind a headlight, which was much better than what i have setup.

but that is where i thought hey, this is simple to do and while it may not help, i just dont see how it could hurt ? the filter sits away from most of the heat and with the open space i have in that area of the engine bay, what air that does flows in, flows right up under that fuse box. So again I may not be getting any sort of gain with this setup but i am most happy with it. still feeling like hey it cant hurt !

also with this k&n extreme flow filter i have that extra top part to suck in some air too.

with a setup like this, its to bad we cant use a midpipe setup and have the midpipe angled in the direction of the headlight/clearance light. maybe some custom fabwork could be done to get the filter to sit right on top of the odyessy battery because the piping is higher and would run over the top of the battery. so who knows ?
