Could standard Nissan Skyline R32 Turbo GTST Front brake calipers work? Apparently they are designed for the 280mm X 30mm thick rotors and are interchangable with the 300zx Z32 twin turbo calipers.

Any ideas?

Stock wheels will not clear the 300z calipers, if you do the true BBK, you will need wheels larger then 16's to clear them.

skyline->300zx->maxima

Hey guys I have a related question for you. I might just post this as its own topic, but I'll start here. I have both a Maxima (97) and a 300ZX (91.) Could I take the brakes from the 300ZX and put them on the maxima and buy a skyline upgrade kit for the 300ZX? that way I could easily upgrade both cars. what stuff would I need?

Yes you could, from what Ive read the Skyline brakes are basicly the same as the 300z brakes, 4 piston calipers.
If your 300z is a 91 it should have the 30mm calipers.
To swap them over to the max, you have two choices.
Z32 swap which uses the Z32 rotors( need to be milled down) Z32 calipers ( either 28mm or 30mm) and conversion lines
or the BBK kit which uses the Z32 calipers (30mm), larger rotors either 04 Maxima or Cobra rotors ( require hubcentric rings) and the relocation brackets plus conversion lines.

here is a site that expalins the differences in Z32 calipers

You can use Q45 calipers instead of the Z calipers. They aren't 4 piston but they are 2 pistion and it is a pretty beefy caliper. I am planning on using the Q45 caliper, 2k4 maxima rotors and Matt blem's relocation brackets.

You can use the 16's if you do the simple 300z swap, not the BBK setup.

oh that was one of the things i was worried about too. the maxima is my everyday driver so im not too concerned about making it a speed machine, thats what the 300zx is for. i was just wanting a performance upgrade without too much cost. you think thats a good idea? quick swap or lots of otehr parts involved? (the skyline to 300zx to maxima swap)

Its up to you, its not a direct swap.
Im not too sure about the Skyline to 300z swap. I would imagine they would just swap over.

For the 300z to maxima you will need,
300z rotors (milled down 4mm)
conversion brake lines
calipers (from your 300z)
and wheels to clear the calipers. The 300z wheels will clear them.
If not, you need 16inch or larger wheels, plus the spoke design of the wheel plays a part of it also.
Look in the wheel/ tire section. There is a list of some wheels that clear the calipers.
I had to use a 5mm spacer for my 18 inch wheels to clear safely. They cleared without them, but just barely. i used the spacer just to be safe.

Im putting 300zx brakes on my 2005 Maxima. I scored 30mm aluminum calipers on ebay for $80 shipped, and Matt Blehm is sending me the relocation brackets and Stainless Steel lines for another $210. I plan on using Hawk Pads. I am painting the calipers red with bronze letters to mach my bronze rims. Im curious as to whether the braking will be better since Im using stock rotors.

Stock 4th gen Maxima wheels are not going to clear the calipers, sorry.
If you want to do the swap, you will need to get different wheels to clear the calipers, the offset and spoke design will determine if they will clear.
here is more info on what wills will clear and what to look for...

You can do q45 calipers and 300zx rotors if you mill 3mm off the diameter. taht will fit under your 15's

The radius has to be milled down...and when ll sid and done they are about the same size and maxima rotors so all ur gettting is 4 piston calipers...may as well goto mattblehm.com and get teh whole kit that uses 12.6" rotors or Jeff92se has brackets for 13" cobra rotors

Once milled down, they are smaller then the maxima rotors, but MUCH thicker.
The control arms have to be grinded down a bit due to them being thicker, if not the rotors will rub the edge of the control arm when turning leaving a groove in the rotor.

I am bout to the 300zx calipers but i don't know wheiter to get the aluminum or iron calipers. I am going to go with the 30mm setup but i hear alot of differences between the two and i am looking for an answer on which ones are less likely to squeal.
