Anyone use auto-rx?
I remember reading a couple times of people wanting to do the auto-rx treatment. My max currently has 208,000 miles on it and I have never dumped any type of oil additive in it since the day I got it. I'm really strict about what I put in my car. I've been using mobil 1 changing it every 3,000 miles and the car still runs like a top. I dumped all that lucas and restore crap in my last car and it blew up but I don't know if it was because of that stuff or just cause it had 244,000 miles. Either way I don't think it helped anything. My car just has a lot of miles and I figured that it could be due for some type of treatment. It seems a lot of people think highly of this auto-rx stuff. Anyone use it and have any good results with it or should I stay away from it?
I just finished an AutoRX clean and rinse in early February, prior to switching to synthetic oil for the first time.
Changing Mobil 1 every 3K is overkill, IMHO. Obviously you haven't owned the car since day 1 and probably can't speak to the previous owner's oil-change behavior.
Take the cap off the crankcase and look into it. If you see a buildup of varnish, you are a candidate for AutoRX. Given the mileage, you probably are anyways.
My engine now runs so quietly I can't hear it at idle and I think my fuel economy picked up a tad before switching to synthetic.
Given you have more than 100K on the clock, you should do 2 applications of AutoRX, not 1.
I endorse the product and recommend you give it a whirl.
It should help clean up your combustion chamber and ring packs. It will not clean your intake manifold, that is a job for Seafoam.
You should probably manually clean your throttle body, IACV valve and EGR system while you are at it.
When was the last time you changed your fuel filter and PCV valve?
