junkyard tranny owners??step in

I just got my tranny replaced yesterday with a 98 with 42k miles. My uncle put it in and after test driving it, it seemed like the shifts were hard. he said it would smooth out over time.does anyone have experience with this because after one day it seems a little better but it might just be in my head.

What trans fluid are you using ?? If your using regular gear oil (*which is probably correct since your uncle probably went out and just bought crap*). I would recommend switching to a Synthetic oil like MT-90 or Amsoil brand Oil. You will see a 100% difference.

no actually he didnt use crap, it was amsoil.he said it would smooth out because the tranny was most likely sitting for a while and now everything needs to get used to shifting again and have the fluid coat all of the parts.

Which Amsoil did you use?

As for the smoothing out, that should take just a couple of minutes. If it doesn't smooth out fast, I'd expect the answer isn't quite that simple.

Yea I agree...It would smooth out within a few miles. As soon as the fluid warms up to operating temp, all the gears and synco-mesh is coated nicely.

If its really bad, check the linkage over.
