Ignition Switch going bad?

When starting the car I have to turn the key anywhere from 3-6 times to get it to fire. All the electronics come on, but it won't start right aways. Could it be my ignition switch, Or something else?

sounds like the ignition swtich. those symptoms happened to me and i swapped out mine awhile ago. can't really go wrong with replacing the switch, it's a relatively cheap part. good luck.

if you hold the key at a certain angle, shake it around, or hold it for a few seconds while trying to crank, does it have any effect on the starting? if so, it's most likely your ignition switch. are you getting a click from under the hood? next time you go to start your car listen very carefully for a click. if you're getting a click, it's more likely to be your starter. i was getting a click, and instead of changing the switch, I removed the starter, cleaned it up, re greased it as seen here: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=461274
sanded the connections to the battery / ground. This solved my problem. Clean your battery terminals too, if they're dirty.

I changed my friends ignition switch in a Wendy's parking lot. Turned out it was his starter malfuctioning and not the ignition switch. He needed a new one anyway and it was easy to put in.

no clicks, battery terminals are fine. I haven't really tried moving the key around or anything. I just Turn the key a few times and eventually it starts.

does anyone have a write up on how to switch the ignition?
i think i have a problem too, but a tad different.

sometimes my car turns on right away. and sometimes, when i turn the key, there is nothing, and i have to wait approx. 3 mins before i start it up again and it turns on, and sometimes i turn the key, hold it there for about 2-3 seconds and the car turns on.
Im' really confused, Does anyone happen to know if this is the ignition switch problem also?

i had a similar problem with my ignition but i ended up simply rubbing the wire to the starter and the car started right away. i guess it was dirty and it was blocking the connection
